About Us Briefly
Laboratory of Plant Physiology of the IH was founded on April 16, 1988. Prof. Habil. Dr. Pavelas Duchovskis, who had been a leader since establishing of the lab, aimed for creation of a modern scientific basis and current research topics. The laboratory facilities include a “phythotron” complex with 10 climate chambers, experimental greenhouses and a vegetation platform. Progressive diode lighting prototypes are installed in the phythotron and greenhouses. The laboratory staff team is young and knowledge-seeking; currently researches are carried out by 5 scientists, 5 PhD students and 2 analysts.

Equipment, analytical capabilities:
The laboratory is equipped with modern equipment, operated by skilled analysts. We expect that our technical capacities will develop continually. We perform a qualitative and quantitative determination using the laboratory validated analytical methodologies. Our equipment:
Phytotron complex – 10 large area and volume climatic chambers with regulation of environmental factors (temperature, light, CO2, UV-B radiation, ozone)
Greenhouse with microclimate control and supplemental lighting (HPS, LED lamps)
Chromatographic equipment – High pressure liquid chromatography with Diode Array (phytohormones, carotenoids), Refractive index (carbohydrates) Fluorescence (tocopherols) detectors, Gas chromatography with mass spectrometry (phytohormones, volatile oils), Capillary electrophoresis with UV/VIS (DNR methylation level, phytohormones)
Spectrophotometric methods – total phenols, DPPH-ABTS scavenging activity, vitamin C, total anthocyanins, proline, chlorophyll, carotenoids, UV-absorbing pigments.
Inductively Coupled Plasma with Optical Emission Spectrometer – chemical elemental analysis
Supercritical Fluid Extractor – for effective extraction using supercritical fluids (CO2) as the extracting solvent (ethanol, methanol).
