Lithuanian Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry (LAMMC)

Lithuanian Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry (LAMMC) was established in 2010 as a merger of three related institutions:
Lithuanian Institute of Agriculture, Lithuanian Institute of Horticulture and Lithuanian Institute of Forestry. The objective of LAMMC is to create a forward-looking research institution that would consolidate Lithuanian agricultural and forestry science, would use a complex approach to the solution of basic and applied research problems and experimental development in the fields of agriculture and forestry.

Mission of LAMMC is the conduct of basic and applied research relevant for science, national economic development and ecological needs, rational and sustainable use of land, forest and environmental resources and high quality production in compliance with envisaged major directions of the scientific activities; development of experimental and other activities in the fields of agronomy, horticulture, forestry science, ecology and other related branches; accumulation of new scientific knowledge, its systemization and dissemination to the public; promotion of balanced and sustainable land and forest economy and rural development.
One of the most important objectives of the LAMMC is, in cooperation with higher educational institutions to prepare educate researchers, assist in specialists training, and carry out formal and informal training and education.

Doctoral Studies. Researchers in the fields of agronomy, forestry, and environment science had already been trained for several decades before the merger of the institutes. After establishment of LAMMC, this tradition is being continued.
Based on LR Minister of Education and Science’s order, in 2011 LAMMC was granted a right for doctoral studies in 4 science fields:
• agronomy and forestry research jointly with Aleksandras Stulginskis University,
• ecology and environment research jointly with Vytautas Magnus University and Natural Research Centre,
• biochemistry jointly with Vytautas Magnus and Lithuanian University of Health Sciences and Nencki Experimental Biology Institute (Poland).
The doctoral studies provided by LAMMC conform to the contemporary problematics of agricultural and forestry sciences, up-to-date methods and facilities are used in research work. Studies and research work are headed by experienced researchers. LAMMC researchers of respective fields participate in the development of curricular and their subject programmes, take part in doctoral studies’ committees and thesis defence boards.

The aims of the journal Sodininkysė ir daržininkystė are:
• to promote agricultural research, seeking to find novel theoretical and practical solutions for the development of horticulture,
• to disseminate research results on biotechnology, plant physiology, plant pathology, growing technologies of orchard plants and vegetables, fruit and vegetables processing issues,
• to ensure dissemination and popularization of scientific expertise, publishing the latest research results, reports and conference proceedings.Volumes of the scientific journal, available in pdf format. New volume “Sodininkystė ir Daržininkystė 37(3–4)”
